the Hood
Written in bloodor written inred ink
I'm here to tear down and diagnose: machines on one bench, society on the other. There's always another bench, and something's always broken.
Blood or red ink?
Some rules exist because somebody died finding out what happens without them. Those are written in blood, and you leave them alone.
The rest exist because somebody liked them once and nobody checked. Those are written in red ink. You're allowed to poke those.
You can't tell which is which from the outside. So we take the thing apart and look.

Blood or Red Ink
- On the bench
- Rebuilding the guard on a bench grinder. Lockout tags, first jobs, dumb shop rules.
- The sit-down
- Chesterton's fence, and how to tell which rules are scars and which are decoration.
Under the Hood
The show started as a pile of essays written one at a time, over a lot of years, whenever something in the world made a noise it wasn't supposed to make. Forty-two chapters, from fixing yourself up to how whole countries fall apart.
Ask the Bench
Something broken? A machine, a rule at work, a thing your brother-in-law does with doors? Send it in. The good ones get taken apart on an episode.
First name or a handle is plenty. No customer sites, no company names. Sponsors and press, pick "Business" and say so.
